Deletion, export and ownership

Your tree belongs to you. AutoTreeGen does not claim ownership of your family history.

What you can do

  • You can export your genealogy data. An export is produced as an encrypted archive: the download link expires after three days and the key is sent to you separately.
  • You can delete a tree. It disappears from your account at once and the permanent wipe of its people, sources, kits and derived data runs in the background right after.
  • You can delete your account. The account is closed immediately and kept in a 30-day grace window during which you can restore it; when the window ends, the account and the private research data associated with it are permanently erased.

What happens after deletion

  • A deleted tree leaves the active copy at once; a deleted account leaves it when the 30-day grace window ends. Either way the wipe covers the tree, its people, sources, DNA kits and derived data.
  • Encrypted off-site backups are rotated on a fixed schedule (daily copies kept for days, weekly copies for weeks), so a deleted item can survive in a backup for that long before the rotation removes it.
  • Deleting data does not erase the record that a deletion happened, and records we must keep for legal or billing reasons are kept for that purpose only.
  • Material you shared with another AutoTreeGen user stays visible to them only while your share exists; deleting the tree ends the share.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, and under the EU GDPR where it applies, you may access, correct, export or delete your data. Write first to [email protected].
