Living people policy

Last updated October 2026

Information about living people receives additional privacy protection. Genealogy is rarely only about you.

Defaults

  • Living profiles are private by default. Sharing is off until you turn it on.
  • Email addresses, birth dates and DNA kit identifiers of living people are not shown publicly.
  • Living people are masked before any AI prompt unless you log an override.

Your responsibility

By uploading a tree you state that you have a lawful basis to process the living people in it. Information about another living person must not be published without a lawful basis or their permission.

Invited relatives

A relative you invite sees only what the tree owner allowed, and the invitation is tied to the email address it was sent to.

Minors

Minors are masked together with living people in exports, shares and AI prompts. We may refuse, suspend or close an account we reasonably believe is used by a minor.

Asking to be hidden

A living person who appears in someone else's tree may ask us to mask their identifiers in the views and exports we control. Write to [email protected].
